Water Resources and Conservation

Dana Reserve will pay approximately $40MM in fees to the NCSD which, among other things, will improve systems for current rate-payers and help fund a reclaimed water delivery line. NCSD completed a water supply study that projects water needs for all users assuming full build-out within the existing NCSD service area– and with every home adding an ADU–, along with the full build-out of the Dana Reserve, and found that there will be approximately 400 acre feet of excess water.

Per the NCSD: with the project, existing NCSD sewer and water rate-payers will save an average of $750/year compared to without the project as it reduces sewer costs by approximately 30% and reduces the impact of imported water rate increases. 

Dana Reserve Reduces Groundwater Pumping

Dana Reserve allows the NCSD to further reduce groundwater pumping by purchasing previously contracted increased amounts of imported water, saving costs for the current ratepayers and contributing recharge water to the basin.

Dana Reserve has committed to only using the more expensive imported water, reserving the less expensive groundwater for existing rate-payers. The Dana Reserve will use zero groundwater now or in the future, and with the completion of the housing development, more water will be returned to the basin than is extracted for the first time ever.
